The two teams qualified for the World Cup in Russia in a grand style and will use this period to play friendlies. This is going to be the second friendly for both teams, and each of them drew the first one. Regarding the qualification, Poland won the first place in the group and it can be said that had played badly only one match, while Mexico also won the first place in its qualifying group. Result of previous two friendlies between the two national teams was identical 1-1.
Despite being in a fairly demanding qualifying group Poland managed to win the first place without much trouble and qualify for the 2018 World Cup. It drew the first match with Kazakhstan but after that Poland won all matches till the head-to-head with Denmark which they totally underperformed and lost by 4-0. At that point their qualification for the World Cup gets a question mark but three sound victories after that allowed the Poles to keep the first place in the group.
In those three matches the Poles scored even 13 goals and were especially efficient against Armenia 6-1, while in the last round they defeated Montenegro by 4-2. Last Friday Poland played a friendly with Uruguay and the match was totally different from qualifiers as it ended as goalless draw. Part of the reason can be fact that first start of the Polish team, forward Lewandowski, had stayed on the bench. In this match we expect to see him on the pitch from the first minute, alongside some other players.
Mexico effortlessly qualified for the World Cup and that has become a norm for this national team. Perhaps they had expected more from the Gold Cup from which were eliminated in the semi-final, just like at the Confederation Cup where they won the fourth place in the end. Mexico lost to Germany in that competition and cannot blame themselves for anything, while at the Gold Cup they lost to Jamaica which shouldn’t have happened. Mexico combined with players in those two competitions; it played with full throttle in the qualification all the way till the very end when it lost to Honduras but the match meant nothing to the Mexicans.
Last Friday Mexico played a friendly with Belgium and it was a wild match, full of ups and downs, while the result read at the end 3-3. Mexico played with a fairly strong team and midfielder Lozano stood out from the crowd with two goals. There should be refreshments in the team for this match, especially in the midfield, where J. dos Santos and Aquino should be starters, while in attack Peralta and Jimenez might get chance in attack.
Both teams played well the qualification and it is hard to say who might be the favourite in their head-to-head. It is certain that both coaches will experiment a bit whit teams but it seems that the Mexicans have better rooster and they proved themselves against Belgium. We believe that Mexico will not lose this friendly.
