The final match in Europa League brings us a duel between Atletico from Madrid, which has already won this competition twice and Olympique Marseille, who has lost UEFA Cup finals twice, but they have the champion title of Europe and Atletico has lost two finals. This game is also important for Marseille, because they did not secure the Champions League through the championship and winning the title would take them to the elite competition, which Atletico has already secured, but they want a trophy after two lost finals from Real. These two teams have met in the Champions League 2008, when Atletico celebrated with 2-1 on their field, while it was 0-0 in Marseille. This finals is played in Lyon.
After 14 years of waiting, Marseille is again in the European final, but unlike that match against Valencia in UEFA Cup finals, they now want to emerge as winners and to add this trophy to the title of European champions from 1993. It cannot be said that they are in a particularly good form and they have only one win in the previous three rounds and therefore will probably remain without placement in the Champions League next season.
They led a big fight with Monaco and Lyon, and they were fourth before the last round, which means they do not depend on their own destiny. The main culprit is that draw with Guingamp in the last round when they had the lead of 2-0, but in the end they barely saved one point, as they stayed with the player less because of Mandanda's suspension. They were without their best player Payet, as well as Ramy and Luiz Gustavo, but they will all play now.
Atletico is under a small pressure, because this team has secured the Champions League next season through the championship. However, the team from Madrid does not want to lose another final after they were defeated by their city rival Real in the finals of the Champions League 2014 and 2016. They are doing much better in Europa League and they celebrated in two finals, 2010 and 2012, and all things considered, this is the fifth finals for Atletico in nine seasons.
They are not doing so well in the championships lately, but it is good that they could allow themselves some defeat in La Liga, since they are still second and will eventually stay there. Their placement was not spoiled by their defeats, first from Real Sociedad with 3-0, and then from Espanyol at home two rounds ago. They defeated Getafe with 1-0 as guests in the last round, with the proviso that goalkeeper Oblak defended the penalty in the finish. Coach Simeone decided to rest some players in that duel and he played with almost the strongest composition in that match, in which Correa will now be a refreshment.
Marseille is again in the finals after a long time, while Atletico is almost constantly in the finals in the past years and this experience could be crucial in this duel. Atletico is, however, individually better and therefore we believe the trophy is going to Madrid.
