The last match of the FA Cup’s third round is again a clash between two Premier League teams. Just one point separates the two teams, returnee to the elite football league in England Brighton occupies the 12th place after 22 rounds and has just one point more than 14th-placed Crystal Palace, which on the other hand is a bit better shape. Regarding their match played at Selhurst Park last autumn it ended as goalless draw.
Right because of that we wouldn’t be overly surprised if their FA Cup match ends up with very few scored goals, especially as it is expected that both teams send combined teams on the pitch. It is fact of life that both teams are just several points away from the relegation zone and on top of it Brighton has three-game winless streak, although it was defeated in the period only by reigning champion Chelsea in London.
After that Brighton drew away with Newcastle 0-0 and Bournemouth 2-2 at home, which only confirmed once again that this team is very difficult to beat when plays at home. This season only Manchester City and Liverpool managed to triumph in Brighton, while out of remaining nine home matches Brighton won three and drew six. Let’s add that only injured midfielder Sidwell is out of action for this match, while not fully ready defender Schelott is questionable.
Regarding Crystal Palace, this match of the third round of FA Cup comes for them after great away league victory over Southampton 2-1 which allowed them to again escape the drop zone. True, the Palace still has just two points more than 18th-placed Stoke but on the other hand it is the most important for them to return to winning habits after three-game winless streak of two draws and one defeat, especially as they defeated direct competitor in the survival battle.
The Palace has significantly improved its shape recently and out of 11 league games they lost just one, to Arsenal at home, while two rounds ago they played at the same stadium 0-0 with leading Manchester City. All this indicate that experienced coach Hodgson has brought many good changes to the team, regardless that he currently cannot count on injured defenders Ward, Sakho and Dann, midfielders Cabaye, Loftus-Cheek and Puncheon and forward Wickham.
Having in mind that both teams struggle to survive in the Premier League it can be expected to play more carefully in their FA Cup match with objective to avoid new injuries. That was the main reason why we have decided to play here on result with fewer goals.
